Many people do not know this, but I recently went to an eating disorder treatment center called Westwind in Brandon, Manitoba for four weeks. The treatment center was a century year old house in a cute neighborhood in downtown Brandon. The house was beautiful and after a few days there, it felt like home. I had my own room, and the four other women who I was there with also had their own rooms. I spent every day for four weeks with these amazing and strong women. We would eat together, have group talks together, and explore the town together. We became almost like a little family, and I am so glad I got to meet so many inspirational women.
One day during one of our daily group sessions with a counselor, we got started talking about different misconceptions that many individuals have about eating disorders. Many people have an idea of what eating disorders are, but they do not REALLY know what goes on in the mind of someone with an ED. A lot of individuals are quick to judge, and have a preconceived notion about what someone with an eating disorder looks like. I have experienced this first hand.
